THE GAP NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT

What Medicare and ACA
don't cover about dental health.

Most health plans — including Original Medicare and ACA plans for adults — don't cover routine dental or vision services. It's one of the most costly gaps we see in Hispanic families.

Medicare doesn't cover routine dental
Part A only covers dental in hospital settings. Routine cleanings, fillings, and extractions are NOT included in Original Medicare or in most Advantage plans without a dental rider.
ACA covers pediatric dental, not adults
ACA plans include dental coverage as an essential benefit for minors. For adults, dental is a separate supplemental plan with an additional cost.
The cost without insurance is devastating
1 cleaning: $150-300 without insurance. 1 filling: $150-300. 1 crown: $1,000-3,500. 1 surgical extraction: $300-600. A dental plan costs $180-360 a year.
Dental health = overall health
Periodontal disease is scientifically linked to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, and respiratory illness.

What science confirms

Your mouth speaks
to your heart, your blood sugar, and your baby.

Oral health isn't cosmetic. It's clinical. Ignoring your gums can have consequences that go far beyond your smile.

Higher risk of heart disease

People with periodontal disease are twice as likely to suffer a heart attack. Bacteria from inflamed gums enters the bloodstream and damages arteries directly.

Harder to control diabetes

The relationship is bidirectional: diabetes worsens oral health, and gum infection raises blood glucose levels. Diabetics with periodontitis control their blood sugar three times worse.

Higher risk of premature birth

Pregnant women with untreated periodontal disease have up to seven times the risk of premature birth. Dental care during pregnancy isn't optional — it's part of prenatal care.

100%

Preventive coverage in most plans

Routine cleanings and X-rays are usually covered at 100%. Catching a problem early costs ten times less than treating it. Prevention isn't an expense — it's the smartest investment in your health.

Hispanic families have higher rates of periodontal disease — in part due to historically lower access to dental insurance. There's a solution for every family situation — let's talk.

WHAT YOUR PLAN COVERS

Three levels of dental coverage.

100%

Preventive

Professional cleanings (2 per year), routine X-rays, oral exams, sealants. Zero out-of-pocket cost with an active plan.

60%

Basic

Fillings, simple extractions, emergency treatment, tartar removal. You pay the remaining 40%.

15–50%

Major

Crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals, periodontics. 15–20% in year 1, up to 50% starting in year 2 — a standard industry waiting period.

VISION COVERAGE

Your vision is your window to the world.
Protect it.

Vision plans are affordable and cover the essentials for maintaining your eye health — from the annual exam to lenses, frames, and more.

Complete annual exam
Visual acuity, eye pressure, retina, colorblindness test, and early detection of glaucoma and cataracts — usually $0 copay.
Frames and lenses
Annual allowance of $130-200 toward brand-name frames. Covers single-vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses based on prescription.
Contact lenses
An alternative to frames. Most plans cover an annual supply of daily, bi-weekly, or monthly contact lenses.
LASIK discounts
Many vision plans include 15-20% discounts on LASIK surgery with participating providers. Save hundreds of dollars.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

If you see yourself in any
of these profiles, you need this.

You don't need a specific condition. Dental and vision insurance is for anyone who wants to protect their health and their wallet at the same time.

Workers without dental benefits at their job

Restaurants, construction, services, self-employment — millions of jobs don't include dental. Individual plans exist that close that gap without depending on an employer.

Medicare beneficiaries without dental coverage

Original Medicare doesn't cover routine dental services. Beneficiaries can add a supplemental dental plan on their own — no medical approval, no waiting period.

Families with school-age children

Children need regular checkups during their development. Catching bite problems or cavities early avoids thousands of dollars in orthodontic treatment later.

People with diabetes or hypertension

If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, dental care is part of your treatment — not an extra. Gum infection makes blood sugar harder to control and directly raises blood pressure.

Anyone who wears glasses or contact lenses

If you already use vision correction, a vision plan pays for your annual exam, renews your prescription, and covers a significant portion of frames or contact lenses — year after year.

Anyone who hasn't been to the dentist in over a year

Many dental problems don't hurt until they're expensive. The best time to enroll was last year. The second best time is today.
